Last week, on Saturday 3rd, a local newspaper from Segovia, «El Adelantado de Segovia», wrote an article about escuela habla in a special section of the Segovia Chamber of Commerce. We have translated it into English, so that all of you can have access to its content. We are looking forward to seeing your comments!! Besides, if you keep reading, you will be the first ones to know the details of a very special event we are preparing 🙂

Escuela Habla, learn Spanish in an effective and fun way

The entrepreneurs Isabel de Pablos and Julia Escudero own a language school to learn this language using an innovative approach, both inside and outside the classroom

Their key activity is one called “HablaBar”, one-hour conversation lessons where they teach vocabulary, grammar or pronunciation.

Learning a language can be difficult and even boring sometimes. The best way to succeed is to internalize the process naturally and enjoyably, just as we do as children. Every year Segovia receives hundreds of students who choose Segovia, Spain, to study a degree at their universities or to learn Spanish effectively, since it is a language spoken by more than 500 million people all over the world.

However, Spanish can be difficult to learn sometimes because lessons may be boring or not useful enough to learn how to deal with daily situations.

Thankfully, there is a school called Escuela Habla, whose directors are teachers, Isabel de Pablos and Julia Escudero, who last January started this new project in their hometown because of its “great potential” for culture, nature and location as well. Besides, they would like to do their part so that Segovia “can be known abroad” and “through which a quality and language tourism of high standards and long stay can be created”, which may be also beneficial for other sectors.

Their workplace is in Exitus Business Center, where the students of this language school learn Spanish in a fun but effective way, thanks to the wide variety of the activities the directors organize, both inside and outside the classroom. Their main objective is that all students “feel the Spanish”, as both claim.

And they do succeed in it, thanks to their innovative and highly effective approach, which makes students learn and improve the different aspects of the language in a very enjoyable way. One of their key activities is one called “HablaBar”, an informal conversation class in a bar, where students learn vocabulary, grammar or pronunciation. It is usually for a minimum of four people and lasts an hour, although “it always goes on”. Besides, before the end of the lesson, there is a short feedback session, where they discuss the mistakes students may have made “in group, so that nobody gets upset – it is a lesson”. For the new school year the directors plan to set a fixed schedule of this activity.

Another remarkable activity is the “Learning Experience”, where students practice Spanish in real and daily situations such as going to the library, to a drugstore or shopping.

At Escuela Habla there are different kinds of workshops: sport, reading, dancing, writing, cooking, theater, as well as trips and outings to see monuments, museums or festivals, “always with a teaching part”, to also help get this cultural and artistic competence in Spanish.

Since Escuela Habla has started, the directors have already taught British, American, German and Asian students, with only the goal of: “they have fun while we are teaching them”.
